The Meaning Behind “Between Breaths”

The name Between Breaths comes from a Buddhist understanding of the natural pause at the end of an exhale ~ a tiny, often unnoticed space before the next inhale begins.

In many traditions, the pause is seen as:

  • a moment of pure awareness

  • a still point between thoughts

  • the threshold between what was and what comes next

  • a gateway into presence

  • the space where habitual patterns loosen and clarity emerges

At Between Breaths Counseling, this pause becomes a metaphor for your healing journey.

Life moves fast. Patterns run deep. Stress and self-criticism become automatic. But in the pause ~ in the space between one breath and the next ~ something different becomes possible.

Who I Work With

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Helps you develop psychological flexibility, soften self-criticism, and take steps aligned with your values ~ even when emotions feel heavy.

Mindfulness-Based Work

Supports you in noticing your thoughts, sensations, and patterns without judgment, creating more room between your experience and your reactions.

Inner Child Work

Gives voice to the younger parts of you that may have been wounded, ignored, silenced, or shamed ~ helping you nurture your needs, rewrite old stories, and reclaim self-worth.

Shadow Work

Helps you gently meet the parts of yourself you’ve avoided or misunderstood ~ not to judge them, but to integrate and reclaim them.

Strengths-Based Therapy

Centers your resilience, insight, courage, and capacity for growth.

CBT (as needed)

Used sparingly and strategically to help untangle unhelpful thoughts and build skills without overshadowing the deeper work.
